City of Belmont receives boost for Belvidere

A project to revitalise Belvidere Street Shopping Precinct has received welcome support from the Australian Government through its Thriving Suburbs Program, to the City of Belmont.
The City will receive $4.745 million towards the design and function of Belvidere Street including alfresco dining areas, green spaces, enhanced lighting and improved amenity. The funding covers roughly half the estimated project spend.
The Australian Government funding represents an investment in the City’s local community with a focus on providing community spaces and opportunities for community connection, as well as enhanced liveability for current and future residents.
As an early step in revitalising Belvidere Street, the Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel also recently approved a $7.5 million application for a new supermarket with associated shop, medical centre, and food and beverage offerings on the corner of Somers Street, Keymer Street, and Belvidere Street.
City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi expressed his appreciation for the Australian Government’s support of the project.
“The Belvidere Streetscape Revitalisation Project aims to create a space where people feel they belong and want to visit. This area has long needed an upgrade, and Belmont truly deserves to be on par with the best locations in Perth.
“There is a lot of support for this project in our community. We undertook community consultation in late 2022 and early 2023 and community feedback helped to shape the final concept design.
“The concept design focuses on enhancing the streetscape to create a more attractive, leafy, and greener welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy,” said Mayor Rossi.
Ms Zaneta Mascarenhas, Federal Member for Swan, was thrilled to see the support for the Belvidere Streetscape Revitalisation Project through the Thriving Suburbs Program.
"I’m thrilled that Belmont’s Belvidere Streetscape Revitalisation Project has secured a Federal Government grant through Labor’s Thriving Suburbs initiative.
"This investment reflects Labor’s dedication to creating better spaces for everyone. Enhancing local areas strengthens communities and boosts local economies.
"The project is more than aesthetics. It will transform the suburb, creating vibrant, connected spaces that benefit the entire community.
“Congratulations to the City of Belmont for their vision and community engagement on the project,” said Ms Mascarenhas.
