MEDIA RELEASE: INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN JOBS

Zaneta Mascarenhas reveals an increase in number of people in jobs in Perth’s Southeast region.

The Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas has revealed there are 9,000 more people in jobs in the Perth Southeast region compared with this time last year.

The Labour force figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday show an increase from 301,700 people in the workforce in June 2022 to 310,700 people in June 2023 in the Perth Southeast SA4 region.

Ms Mascarenhas said the updated job figures for June are signs the measures by the Albanese Government to address the skills shortage and get more people into the workforce are working.

“This is positive news for Perth’s entire southeast corridor,” said Ms Mascarenhas.

“One of Labor’s key election commitments was to create more jobs. We are showing that we are true to our word and delivering on that pledge in my electorate and across the southeast region of Perth,” she said.

She said she is proud of what the Albanese Government has achieved in its first year and the latest figures are testimony to that.

“The rise in people working can be put down to the investment by the government in skills and training such as the 18,800 Fee-Free TAFE and VET places on offer in 2023.”

The latest figures come after Ms Mascarenhas spent Wednesday reflecting on her first year of Parliament with local people in the City of Kalamunda about the issues that are affecting them.

“I want to make sure the government continues to tackle the issues that are affecting local people the most.

“This means creating new jobs and easing the pressures on households by providing electricity relief, pay rises for aged care worker, and cheaper medicines.”

“Once again the Albanese Government is delivering while making the sure the needs of the community are put first,” said Ms Mascarenhas.

The SA4 Perth – Southeast region Statistical Areas Level 4 (SA4) are designed for the output of regional data and represent labour markets and the functional area of Australian capital cities. The SA4 Perth Southeast region takes in the entire electorate of Swan, wholly or partly the electorates of Burt and Tangney, and to a lesser extent, Canning and Hasluck.
