Congratulatory Messages

Local residents celebrating a special birthday or anniversary can receive personal congratulations from the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, Governor-General or HM The King.

Australians can receive a message from the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader:

  • on their 50th wedding anniversary and every year after*
  • on their 90th birthday and every year after*

Australians can receive a message from the Governor-General:

  • on their 50th wedding anniversary and every year after*
  • on their 100th birthday and every year after*

Australians can receive a message from HM The King:

  • on their 60th wedding anniversary and every fifth year after*
  • on their 100th birthday and every fifth year after*

If you did not receive a message from HM The King for your 60th wedding anniversary or 100th birthday you can request one for a subsequent occasion (ie: 61st wedding anniversary or 101st birthday). You do not have to wait until your 65th wedding anniversary or 105th birthday.

Arranging Celebratory Messages

You can make arrangements for anniversary messages up to two months before the celebration. You can request a belated message up to one month after the birthday or wedding anniversary has passed.

In order to process this request, please provide a copy of either the marriage or wedding certificate, or a statutory declaration stating the date of the occasion.

Please contact us well in advance and we will get in touch with you to organise the necessary supporting evidence. Please be ready to provide us with a birth certificate, a marriage certificate or a statutory declaration.
